Covid 19

NOTICE OF CANCELLATION OF THE POSITIVE IMAGES FESTIVAL 13th June to 4th July 2020

Sadly due to the current Covid 19 epidemic, this year’s Summer Festival including the Craft and Food Fair and the Community Information Fair 19th June in Broadgate, will be cancelled.  This is partly due to the uncertainty about when it would be safe for people to go to outdoor and indoor events and partly due to the availability of venues and the presence of the emergency services.

The Positive Images Festival Executive are very well aware of the great amount of work and networking that many of you have been involved in  to get to this point and  as it is the first cancellation in our 26 year history we are very naturally sad to have to  make this announcement.  However, we cannot risk the health of any of our members, volunteers, artists and supporters.  Due to the uncertainty about when venues and volunteers might be available, we have decided to cancel the Festival rather than delay a decision.

This will also mean that the planning meetings due to take place on the 9th April and the 7th May have also been cancelled.  Also cancelled, at least for the next few months, are the Positive Images Poetry Workshops run by Emilie Lauren Jones at the Central Library on the last Sunday of each month.  However, we will be sending around details of a Facebook Live poetry workshop substitute in the next few days allowing anyone to take part in a virtual poetry workshop.

We hope that many of you who have worked on events and activities for the Festival will be able to run these later in the year or carry them over to the Positive Images Festival contribution to the Coventry City of Culture 2021.  We will be issuing updates on ideas for future events and networking as, and when, we can.

The Future

We also hope to offer to following opportunities later in the year depending on funding:
A series of workshops based on the Summer Workshops programme for Coventry City of Culture that we ran in 2019.  Further details to be released once we are in a position to plan the programme.

A Celebration event later in the year and a look forward to 2021 City of Culture at the Ukrainian Hall,  as part of a Concert of Multicultural Music and Dance.

A major Poetry event in the autumn to follow on from the 2019 Poetry programme.

Finally,   the Positive Images Email network will continue, so please keep sending any information that we can send round our 250 member organisations.

Good luck to everyone during this very difficult time.
