Following on from the Festival Launch this is your chance to highlight positive things about Coventry. The project, led by Kate Hills, from Hillz FM, offers an opportunity to highlight the good things in the city. So call into the Central Library and post your views. All the posts and photographic images will form part of an exhibition later in August.

Come along to the Positive Images Peace Festival Poetry Competition Awards 2018 and hear some of the entries being read and see the awards to the winners and runners up.

The Farmers’ Market returns, offering a variety of fresh, locally sourced seasonal produce. There is a vast range of products on offer – honey, mustard, marmalade, jams, organic meat, sausages, flavoured rustic farmhouse breads, baguettes, croissants, cheese, pickles, fresh organic fruit and seasonal vegetables. Also a variety of takeaway foods on offer to tempt you as you browse. All goods are farmed within 50 miles of our region. Buy local and reduce your carbon footprint!
The Farmers’ Market takes place on the third Friday of each month.

About Canley Popupcafe

Canley Pop Up Café is informal cafe style get-together offering friendly space for everyone to come and talk, to meet people from different backgrounds and share stories. Events are held at Canley Community Centre and in Prior Deram Park. The purpose of Canley Pop Up Cafes was to get people from different cultures to interact with each other in Canley and to create a community feel and hope for the future of Canley which these events have achieved. It has also made residents see students in a positive light.

The Canley Pop Up Cafés are run by local community champions led by Dr Nor Aziz who is a local resident and alumna of the University of Warwick. The café has been running for over  a year now and have been very popular with local residents with around 50 people attending each one.

Warwick Volunteers have attended the cafes and led games and craft activities supported by a groups of 10 student volunteers to help deliver these. The activities have been really popular with local residents and the students have enjoyed meeting the local community and interacting with people from different cultures and generations. They’ve also enjoyed the home cooked food (vegetarian fried noodles is the most popular dish so far!) and complimentary refreshments and cakes and many more.

Mark Hinton (University of Warwick Community Engagement Development Manager, CLL) attended the cafes,  leading volunteers to encourage residents to share common issues and concerns to help empower individuals and groups to speak out and take action on the issues that are affecting them. Mark used an interactive approach collating visitors’ responses and helped with populating feedback into spreadsheet for monitoring purpose.
